Whilst these days, Mother’s Day gifts tend to be flowers, jewellery or a meal out at her favourite restaurant, the origins of Mother’s Day go way back to the Ancient Greeks.
Rhea, the Mother of the Gods and Goddesses was celebrated every spring with festivals of worship. The Romans also celebrated a mother Goddess, Cybele, every March as far back as 250BC.
So, whilst you might not be going quite as far as a festival of worship for Mum (even if they do deserve it!) we know that you’ll make Mother’s Day the best it can be. Speaking from experience, having someone else do the washing up is a great first step!
If for any reason you can't celebrate Mother's Day with your Mum you can still make it special to them.
Mother’s Day is the biggest flower buying day of the year in the UK, but why not make your flowers extra special by pressing her favourite bloom? A framed flower is the perfect keepsake and is an extra special present for this Mother’s Day.
We have no doubt that you have heaps of memories that you know will make mum smile, so how about putting all your favourite photos and other memorable bits and pieces together, so mum always has a box of love near-by!
No matter how old you are, homemade, hand-decorated biscuits are always a good idea! Flex your creative skills with a piping bag or let the little ones go wild with sweeties and sprinkles to give Mum a sweet treat.
